One of the best aspects of video games is how they allow you to become a different person. Some games give you a myriad of options when it comes to who you want to be. In Fallout or games in the Elder Scrolls series, the players are encouraged to customize their look, their play style, and their destiny to become who they want in fantasy.
Other games offer less in the way of customization, but that doesn't stop us from feeling like the plucky, bouncy plumber when we play Mario games or the rugged, stealthy snake when we play Metal Gear Solid games. However, immersion has never been so powerful as it is in the age of virtual reality. That's why we've compiled this list of what we consider the best Oculus Rift games on the market.

You'll never be more inside your character's head than when your head is fully immersed in the virtual.
Strap on the headset, grab your controllers or your gloves or your wands, and jack into the matrix. What seemed so sci-fi even five years ago is now becoming commonplace. Fewer and fewer people are installing home theaters and are setting aside whole rooms for VR experiences instead.
Yes, it feels a bit like living in Snow Crash. Yes, it feels a bit like living in Fahrenheit 451. But the future is upon us. So it falls to us to pick the virtual worlds we want to live in. There are plenty of time and money wasting experiences out there. Fortunately we've cut those wastes out to present to you the 7 best Oculus Rift games available today.
Before we consider each of these seven one by one, it first becomes necessary to answer some of the most frequently asked questions that we receive about Oculus Rift games.
How We Reviewed
We love VR and any opportunity to download the latest games for review. Right now, VR is in a sensitive stage. It works, it is semi-affordable, and it is highly sought after. That means VR is here to stay.
There's a lot for individual game makers and the community to figure out when it comes to what VR games will look like, but this inchoateness is also what makes it so exciting.
Ultimately, if the experience was worth undergoing for its price tag, it had a chance to make this list. Not all are fully polished AAA experiences, but all these seven are worthwhile.
Overall Price Range of This Product
(and Similar Products)
Expect to be spending more money on VR setups and games than on traditional consoles and their games. The $50 to $60 range is still standard for a “full” game, although many VR titles can get away with less material for this same price.
If the game requires additional hardware, then you are likely looking at a price jump that may triple or quadruple the price of a game.

Product FAQ
1. What Exactly Is an Oculus Rift?
If you don't know, “Oculus Rift” can sound like some sort of Latin incantation for telekinetically ripping the eyes out of your foes. Far from it. The “rift” between your “oculuses” refers to the disconnection your eyes have with space reality.
The system can play games, connect you to virtual worlds full of real players, or embed you into an IMAX-sized theater playing web videos of your choosing.
2. Will VR Make Me Sick?
It might. Not everyone reacts pleasantly to being mentally teleported to who knows where with the simple donning of a helmet. Usually, the movement is what trips people up. Something about seeing yourself move without feeling yourself move really sets some people's stomachs turning.
The principle behind this is similar to why you get carsick. You can see the world moving around you, but your inner ear tells you that you yourself are not moving. This mismatch creates vertigo.
Games attempt to minimize the player's discomfort through various methods. Right now, there is no agreed-upon standard of how to minimize VR vertigo, but methods include using window boxes to narrow one's vision while moving or relying on “zero-inertia” teleportation systems of getting around the world.
3. How Do Oculus Rift Games Work?
The headset plays two slightly desynchronized feeds, one to each eye, to bypass the sensation of looking at a screen. This simple trick allows you to feel like there is no screen in front of you at all, and that you have somehow bodily entered the matrix.
4. Where Can I Try Virtual Reality?
VR is expensive. If you want to try it before you buy it, we recommend you look for VR bars in your area. This new type of establishment has begun to pop up everywhere. (The first one we saw was actually in Arkansas.)
They may be pricey for a limited time in the matrix, but ultimately they are worth testing the waters with if you are considering going all in and buying a system of your own.
5. Will I Be Able to Distinguish Fantasy from Reality?
So far, nobody has lost their grip on reality due to interaction with the virtual world. The graphics in VR games are usually not photorealistic, which helps the distinction.
Even in the best Oculus Rift games, the dual screens go further to make you feel like you are elsewhere than to make you feel like your world has changed around you.
The Verdict
Superhot still takes the cake for being one of the best Oculus Rift games in our opinion. With great challenge and re-playability, this game will keep you and your friends on your toes for hours as you shoot, stab, run, dodge, and duck in your living room. You'll soon be chanting "SUPER! HOT! SUPER! HOT!" once you get your hands on this title, one of the best Oculus Rift games in existence.
